🥰My latest #SocialPRSecret is a book- and a good one. “Free PR”. The title is enticing and sensational, makes you want to pick it up and read it. PR 101 - Write a headline for the pick up, the RT or the open. That’s exactly what authors Cameron Herold and Adrian Salmunovic did. 15 years ago I almost left the PR industry completely, even though I was good at it and had a successful agency. The problem was nothing had changed in more than 100 years and I was sick of dealing with journalists and competing against all the other PR people who practice spammy tactics and did the “Spray and pray” pitching practices. PR has gone through a metamorphosis over thanks to technology, Google, Facebook, Twitter and technology in general and people like Peter Shankman coming up with HARO. This gave me a new lease on “PR life “with all kinds of new ways to leverage influence, reach, exposure and publicity. A fresh start to what was a very archaic industry. I assumed all PR pros would see this opportunity quickly and it would be like a gold rush to reinvent and adapt. Nope. Crickets. Gaining media coverage is ripe with more opportunities and outlets than ever. Optimizing content is a must. Yet *most* public relations pros and agencies live in the box of old-fashioned PR still today. Too many #Fail to take the extra step of continued and constant education in bringing the digital and social into the PR equation. That’s why I wrote #SocialPRSecrets in 2013 and now in it’s 4th edition. To help educate the agencies, business owners, digital marketing and public relations pros and even college students - socialize, publicize and optimize the PR process. I double down agree with “FREE PR” beginning to end. Just remember nothing in life is free and it requires time, resources and organized efforts to achieve the successful PR outcomes outlined by Cameron and Adrian. The silver bullet is putting it into action. #publicrelations #entrepreneur #pr ##mondaymotivation #digitalmarketing
